Imphal, August 02 2021:
Maintaining that the state government has been victimising Physical Education teachers working under the Education (Schools) Department, Education (S) Department Physical Educatiqn Teachers' Association (EDPETA) has appealed to the government to upgrade post and revise their pay scale similar to that of PET posts bifurcated into Youth Affairs and Sports (YAS) department.
In a statement, the Association said that the PET employees are being ill-treated by the government for long in-spite of the fact that many of them are national and international medalists recruited in 2010.In 1980, some of the PET employees were bifurcated into YAS department leaving only 106 posts in the education department.
At present, there are only 18 in-service physical education teachers and the remaining posts are lying vacant.
The posts of those annexed to the YAS department have been upgraded into three different categories based on their qualification and their pay scale revised.
However, the education (S) department has neither upgraded the PET posts nor revised their pay scale.
Besides, these employees are being deprived of their benefits, the statement said while demanding the government to upgrade their posts and revise their pay scale similar to those under YAS department, which they have been demanding since 2011.They have submitted memorandums and reminders to the chief minister and the education minister in this regard eight times but no initiative has been taken up so far, it lamented.
