Imphal, August 27 2015:
Complaining about bad smell and leakage of dirties from the Solid Waste Management Plant at Lamdeng Khunou of Lamsang, residents of Lamdeng have on Thursday banned further storing of trash at the plant until the seepage is stopped by the concerned authorities.
The plant at Lamdeng Khunou was constructed with a budget of Rs 42 crore in March 2010 and completed in June 2014.Though the plant is yet to be inaugurated, disposal of waste at the plant has started on trial basis since the last few months.
Acting on the complaint by the locals, an official team led by MLA Mangibabu, chairman of Planning and Development Agency, MLA of Lamsang constituency Brajabidhu and Director of MAHUD Guthumani inspected the site on Thursday.
Locals of the area were also present during the inspection visit.
MLA Mangibabu assured the Lamdeng villagers to bear with the temporary problem saying the process is still going on to handover the plant to an outside company for well functioning.
But the villagers demanded the team to immediately look into the matter and announced to ban further dumping of trash at the plant until the problem is solved.
