Imphal, June 08 2021:
Communist Party of India, Manipur State Council has contended that the Prime Minister Narendra Modi's initiative for providing free Covid-19 vaccination has come rather quite late.
In a release, State Council secretary L Sotinkumar noted that PM Modi neither held press conference to disseminate information on crucial national issues in his 7 years of governance nor talked to the media to acknowledge and redress the inconveniences faced by the people.
People are all aware that PM remained deaf when opposition leaders called for strict control measures for containing Covid-19 second wave at the earliest.
After the Supreme Court looked into the matter of containing the infectious virus, several CSOs and opposition party pressed the government for providing free Covid vaccination through the media.
Subsequently, PM Modi announced free Covid vaccination for all, Sotinkumar stated, while adding that despite appreciation from various sides regarding free vaccination, one should not forget that many leaders, medical scientists and people have died because of the delay in taking up such initiative.
Instead of waiting for June 22, the government should take up initiative on a war footing for ensuring mass vaccination of people particularly those living in rural areas, Sotinkumar demanded and stressed that the monetary aid of Rs 6500 should be given to poor people through direct benefit transfer system and provide essential items to this section of the society as imposition of lockdown and curfew has drastically affected them.
