Shillong, August 05 2014:
Another State Bank of India (SBI) employee, posted at the remote Gasuapara branch in South Garo Hills (SGH), Meghalaya was abducted on Tuesday while he was on his way to Barengapara, near Dalu in West Garo Hills (WGH) .
Subodh Kr Mishra was posted in the branch as a clerk and had been on his bike when six to eight (eye witness accounts) gun toting militants stopped him on a highway while he was on his way to his quarters in Barengapara.
The incident took place at about 4:30 pm near the village of Chiringpara, a few kms from Gasuapara.
Gasuapara is about 60 km from Tura in WGH.
The SGH police have launched a massive operation to locate the kidnapped Mishra.
"We are making all efforts to rescue Mishra.
We have inputs that he has been taken towards a jungle around the area," said the Superintendent of Police (SP), SGH, Lakador Syiem.
The Police suspect this to be the handiwork of the A'chik Songna An'pachakgipa Kotok (ASAK) outfit.
Assistant General Manager (Garo Hills division), Nixon Joseph has appealed to the abductors to release Mishra immediately without any conditions.
Meanwhile, till the filing of this report, the SP confirmed that no demands have been made to the family of the kidnapped Mishra.
Joseph said, "An incident of this nature will only dampen the spirit of the SBI employees who are working to serve the people of Garo Hills.
This makes things worse for everyone especially the ones working in remote branches for the people of Garo Hills" .
On June 16, 2014, Arvind Kumar, SBI Branch Manager of Ampati in South West Garo Hills (SWGH) was abducted from Garobadha.
He was rescued by police unharmed in an operation on June 18, 2014 .
