The valedictory function was graced by senior journalists K Madhumangol, AK Sanaton, K Bijoy and several other journalists as Presidium Members.
Speaking on the occasion, K Madhumangol said that rampant rise in crime against women as reported in media clearly indicates that there have been lapses on the part of Commission for Women in curbing the menace, and underlined on the need for including moral education lesson in school curriculum.
AK Sanaton stated that media being the fourth pillar of democracy has been disseminating vital information on important issues like child labour and trafficking to the people, and noted that there is a need for concerted effort from media and child rights based organizations to sensitize the issue.
Also, taking part in the programme, Nomita Kongbantabam, staff reporter of Hueiyen Lanpao said though the establishment of Women Commission in the State was a welcoming step, its effectiveness and influence are lagging behind as compared to NGOs and other influential organizations.
She added that the commission needs to be strengthened and come up with various measures to create education and awareness on related issues.
