Thoubal, May 25 2021:
Land owners residing along the road stretch from YK College, Wangjing to Unikhong in Thoubal district, who are affected by the ongoing widening of the Imphal-Moreh road, have strongly opposed acquisition of land without payment of adequate compensation and have drawn attention of authority concerned in this regard.
A statement of the affected land owners made available to media houses contended that land acquisition for widening of Imphal-Moreh road is being done in a fraudulent manner and it would not be acceptable to affected land owners.
A land owner named Yum-nam Sachi of Wangjing said on the behalf of nine land owners that joint surveys of land to be affected by widening of the road were done repeatedly involving SDC Khongjom, SDO Thoubal and officials of GR-Infra Limited.
However, work agencies namely NHIDCL and GR-Infra Limited piled up earth and stones at affected land between Wangjing and Lamding Loukol in the middle of night without taking approval of land owners or payment of the compensation amount.
The act of the work agencies indeed was to encroach upon the land in a fraudulent manner, Sachi observed and urged authority concerned to look into the matter and bring an amicable solution.
Sachi also maintained that land owners are not against widening of the road and supported the development project but strongly opposed the manner in which work agencies are trying to encroach land.
He also said that NHIDCL and GR-Infra Limited should be held responsible for any untoward incident if they continue with the land encroachment attempt.
