The All Club, Organisation, Association and Meira Paibi Lup (ACOAM-Lup) Kangleipak has stressed on the need of a robust tax collection system which is devoid of any loopholes so as to improve the financial condition of the State.
Speaking to media persons at the association's office at Lamphel today, its secretary (org) Shanta Mangang alleged that after the introduction of GST, the amount of tax which goes to the Government as GST has been shrouded in mystery due to the fact that most of the vendors and shopkeepers do not provide cash memo which clearly shows the amount of GST as well as the failure of the buyers/customers to ask for the same while buying any goods or products.
He explained that poultry, pig and fish feeds were always imported from outside the State but in the recent years, some indigenous poultry and other livestock feeds manufacturers have sprung up in the State.
Asking who fixes the price of the feed produced by these manufacturers, Shanta Mangang urged the State Government to look into the matter as well as to check the imported feeds which do not have price tags and to collect necessary taxes.
Poultry, piggery and fish business have become very profitable in the State but more often than not, livestock feeds often lack any form of price tags and as such their price are fluctuating at random, he said and added that it is often questionable how much goes as tax to the Government when the price of livestock feed increases, for example from around Rs 1100 per bag in the past to Rs 2100 per bag now.
