NYK, Thoubal remembers Netaji Subhas

Nehru Yuva Kendra (NYK) Thoubal in collaboration with Salungpham Youth Association (SYA), and NYK Chandel in collaboration with Thamlapokpi Village Authority and Youth Club observed Parakram Diwas to mark the 125th birth anniversary of Netaji Subhas Chandra Bose at Salungpham, Thoubal and Thamlapokpi village, Chandel respectively on Sunday.
In a release, NYK Thoubal district youth officer Michael Thangminlien Mate informed that the Parakram Diwas observance at Thamlapokpi village, which was an actual battlefield of the Indian National Army (INA) was attended by Thamlapokpi village chief Th Beshang, assistant chief LV Angsui, church secretary Th Martin and village elder Sk Shekarmong among others while NYK Chandel volunteer M Mercy Haokip delivered the key note address.
All the dignitaries highlighted how Thamlapokpi village became a war site between the British Indian Army and the INA allied with Japanese Army, who used it as a base camp and field hospital, while also mentioning about two great heroes from Thamlapokpi village who served in the INA, namely, R Seninrai and Thakuri Kansa.
Later, the attendees paid a visit to the former campsite and field hospital of INA in the village, it added.
The release continued that the observance at Thoubal opened with offering of floral tributes to portrait of Netaji Subhash Chandra Bose and welcome address delivered by NYK DCAYP member K Lokendro Singh with resource persons Chitaranjan Singh speaking on the 'Philosophy, Teachings & Life-History of Netaji Subhash Chandra Bose' and SYA president S Rishikanta Singh touching upon the history and significance of INA as the first army in the world to treat women equally with men with their Rani Jhansi Regiment troops fighting alongside male soldiers.
