Factors pushing youth to be psycho active substances users highlighted

Imphal, February 12 2021:
Lack of facilities for youth friendly healthy outlets , recreation space in the society are main factors to push the youth to be psycho active substances, said Dr RK Lenin Singh HoD Dept of psychiatry during the Awareness program of community reach out and Dependent population under Nasha Mukt Bharat Campaign held at Royal Academy of Law, Oinam today.
He stated the Manipur has around 34000 psychoactive substances dependent persons ( drug addicted ) and it is an alarming magnitude, which needs a multi disciplinary intervention for prevention, treatment and rehabilitation.
He stressed that mere advice by parents is not effective to an users but a professional counselling by trained counsellors is helpful, he also appealed to be resilient while treating the users for which detoxification, repeated treatment to address chronic relapsing disorder is required for a successful drug treatment.
He emphasised to ensure collective responsibility including family, community, NGOs, health professionals apart from IRCAs or Rehabilitation Centres .
In the key note address Mr.Keisam Pradipkumar chief Functionery, Anouba Punsikon IRCA said that India is undertaking Nasha Mukt Bharat Campaign from 15 August 2020 to 31 March 2021
India has 272 most drug affected districts .
Manipur has 8 identified districts to be most drug affected .
Manipur is having 8 districts identified including Bishnupur, Imphal East and West districts, Senapati, Kangpokpi, Churachandpur , Chandel.
The Bishnupur and Bishnupur districts have been recognised as the best performing 10 districts in India implementing the Nasha Mukt Bharat Campaign.
During the programme Y Jugeshwor Singh Principal RAL Oinam declared Royal Academy of Law Oinam a drug free Institution.
The participants also took pledge to make Bishnupur and Manipur to be drug free district and state.
