Dr Linus Neli becomes third Archbishop of Imphal

Most Rev Dr Linus Neli, DD, became the third Archbishop of Imphal after an Episcopal Ordination ceremony was held on Friday at St John Bosco Parish, Maram Khunou, Senapati.
Notably, Most Rev Dr Linus Neli is the first from Senapati district to be approved by the Vatican.
Most Rev.Dominic Lu mon, DD, Archbishop Emeritus was the Chief Consecrator while Archbishop of Guwahati Most Rev John Moolacchira, DD and Bishop of Kohima Most Rev James Thoppil, DD were the Co-consecrators.
The Episcopal Ordination was held in the presence of 'His Excellency' Leopoldo Girelli who is the Apostolic Nuncio to India and Nepal.
Dr Linus Neli was born on April 26, 1958 at Punanamei village, Senapati district.
He attended Papal Seminary, Pune and took priestly ordination on December 20, 1984.Apart from various appointments, Dr Linus Neli was elected Archbishop of Imphal on October 7, 2023, and consecrated as an Episcopal Bishop on December 8, Friday.
In his speech, Dominic Lumon highlighted the role of God in sending Jesus Christ to redeem humanity and sent 12 apostles to spread the gospel.
He emphasised the importance of serving rather than ruling, and urged the Archbishop to proclaim the message, correct errors, offer sacrifices, and show grace to those in need.
He also called upon the faithful to work together in apostolic tasks, listen to their concerns, and attend to the entire flock appointed by the Holy Spirit to oversee the church of God.

Leopoldo Girelli, stressed the need for spiritual growth, faith, and mission growth, while also expressing sadness over tense situation in the state while urging for unity and peace.
Dr Linus Neli expressed gratitude for the Apostolic Nuncio's presence in India and Nepal, highlighting his blessings for peace and normal life.
He thanked guest dignitaries, church leaders, and those who witnessed the event for their support and encouragement.
Later in the programme, commendation notes from various Archbishops, Outer Manipur MP, MLAs, and other organisations were read out.
The programme attracted over 10,000 delegates from Northeastern states, including four archbishops, 14 bishops, 240 priests, 500 nuns, and 14 bishops.
