Court directs CFSL Kamrup

Imphal, December 08 2023: The Court of Chief Judicial Magistrate, Imphal West yesterday issued notice to the Director, CFSL Kamrup, Assam for sending a responsible officer/ representative of the institute to clarify any doubt of the Court.

The notice was issued after hearing an FR case filed by Ningthoujam Tomcha, father of late Babysana.

During the hearing, the Court observed that there is need of some clarification regarding the CFSL letter dated August 19, 2022 or other documents relating to the Directorate of CFSL, Kamrup Assam with regard to handing over of forensic report.

The Court issued notice to the Director CFSL Kamrup for sending a responsible officer/representative of the institute to clarify any doubt of the Court returnable by January 15 .

An FR case was filed before the Court in connection with the final report submitted by the CBI on the controversial death of N Babysana on July 18, 2019 inside the hostel of Standard Robarth Higher Secondary School, Canchipur before the same Court in May 2021 .

The final report said that chargesheet could not be submitted against the accused persons as no evidence emerged during investigation that the accused persons had a common intention to murder or abet suicide of Babysana Chanu or were cruel to the child (Babysana) or had cheated any person.

In March 2022, CBI had reopened the case after CJM Imphal West rejected the final report.

On November 21, 2023, the IO of the case or the counsel of the CBI were directed to be present at the Court yesterday without fail.

Notably, then 13 year old Babysana, a hosteller of Standard Robarth School, Canchipur was found hanging inside the hostel on July 18, 2019 and her death sparked controversy with family suspecting foul play and post mortem report indicated the cause of death to be asphyxia.

Five individuals who were arrested in connection with the case and later released on bail included then head warden Ileen Kamei d/o (L) Kamei Kumar of Langthabal Chingthak, then warden Nongmaithem Jinnty d/o Joykumar of Moirangkhom Sougaijam Leirak, then junior administrator Pheiroijam Robinson s/o Ibohal of Canchipur near MU Gate, founder cum Principal Pheiroijam Landhoni and coordinator Pheiroijam Romita w/o Raja of Kwakeithel Thiyam Leikai.
