Senapati, December 28 2012:
The United Naga Council (UNC) has alleged that the Government of India is waiting for communal clashes to erupt in Manipur.
The UNC said that the 'inefficient dealing' of New Delhi whenever any tense situation crops up in Manipur speaks volumes.
"It has been for quite a long time that the Government of India is waiting for communal clashes in Manipur," accused the UNC.
In the same breath the UNC also said that though Gujarat Chief Minister Narendra Modi has been tagged as the most communal Chief Minister of India, it is actually Manipur Chief Minister O Ibobi Singh who should be called the most communal Chief Minister of India.
The United Naga Council has also appealed to all the 72-hour 'Naga area' bandh supporters not to indulge in anti-social activities.
"We appeal to everyone to be democratic and peaceful while enforcing the 72-hour bandh because our movement is purely a political one," added the UNC.
It clarified that the 72-hour bandh is not a counter-bandh to the Chandel incident.
"Ours is a demand for an early Alternative Arrangement for the Nagas of Manipur, outside the Government of Manipur, pending settlement of the Indo-Naga political issue," further clarified the UNC.
Accusing the Chief Minister of Manipur for his alleged failure in providing security to the stranded tribal people on Christmas shopping in Imphal, ther UNC said, "A large number of security personnel could be detailed at Mao Gate to prevent Thuingaleng Muivah from visiting his native village Somdal in Ukhrul district but the Government said there was a shortage of security personnel to protect these stranded Christmas shoppers" .
The UNC said that the 2012 Christmas will go down in the history of Manipur as the worst event so far.
"The Christians will never forget the Ibobi Singh sponsored agitation in the valley to disrupt the Christmas celebration.
His communal activities are exposed today," the UNC added.
Reasoning why the Chief Minister was doing this, the UNC alleged, "The Nagas are expecting the Naga political solution soon and O Ibobi Singh was hell-bent to spoil this event and so he started sponsoring such agitation in the valley" .
The UNC questions as to why the Chief Minister has been keeping mum on the Napet Palli incident of December 24 where a tribal girl was molested by three persons.
"Ibobi Singh could go to New Delhi on December 22 and apprised the Manipuri film actress alleged molestation or assaultation case to the Union Home minister but chose to maintain silence on the December 24 molestation case of the tribal girl.
If this is not a communal apprtoach then what is?" asks the UNC.
The Naga body also said that the Manipuri film actress assault case could rock the Manipur legislative assembly but when tribal girls were raped as in the cases of mass rape of Hmar women in Churachandpur district and the Tamenglong chilli vendor rape case, the state government of Manipur was not as vigour and vocal as in the case of Manipuri film actress assault case.
"Series of cabinet meetings could be held.
All political parties meeting was convened for a mere assault or alleged molest case of a Manipuri film actress but when tribal women were raped by the Meiteis nothing was done by the Manipur government.
If this is not communal, what can be more communal?" wonders the UNC.
