CCpur, July 26 2020:
Even as efforts are underway to trace and test the contacts of the first known person to have contracted Covid-19 without any travel history, another man who runs a private pharmacy inside the district hospital campus with no travel history has tested positive today in Churachandpur.
The 41-year-old pharmacist was among the 190-hospital staff and outsourced workforce whose samples were collected yesterday.
Their samples, along with 163 samples collected from close contacts of the 26-year-old Advanced Diagnostics' receptionist and several others from quarantine centres have been sent to Imphal for RT-PCR tests.
A total the 408 results returned today.
The private pharmacist was the lone case to have returned positive.
All other hospital staff and the second batches of the close-contacts of the private lab employee too returned negative.
Today's results though grim, as more contact tracing tasks lie ahead, nevertheless reassured the local authorities that there is as yet no community transmission stage as 316 close-contact samples drawn from across the district in the past two days have returned negative along with the entire staff of the district hospital.
The existence of local or cluster transmission however is a given by now.
Today, 174 more samples, including 164 from close-contacts and 10 from quarantine centres were collected and sent to Imphal.
