Politics for the Poor: Bala's day-long fast concludes

The day-long fast observed by social worker, Ningthoujam Bala (or Bidyarani) came to an end at 8 am today at her residence at Brahmapur Aribam Leikai.
She is the 51st Indian to have observed the day-long Nationwide relay fasting held with the slogan "Politics for the Poor" under Gandhian Collective India.
After completing the 24 hour fast, she broke the fast with former Mayor of Imphal Municipal Corporation, Aribam Nimai Singh offering her honey.
The Nationwide relay fasting was followed by social activist Satish Tiwari from Jabalpur in Madhya Pradesh as the 52nd satyagrahee, as per a statement of CPI, Manipur.
The idea behind the Gandhian Collective India's movement "Politics for the Poor" is to ensure poor farmers, labourers and villagers of the country a better and respectable livelihood, said N Bala after breaking her fast.
Bala also appealed to all to support such a reasonable movement.
As a mark of solidarity, secretaries of CPI, State Unit, L Sotinkumar, Kshetrimayum Santa; CPI Manipur secretariat member, Sarat Salam; Gandhian, TD Ngangomba; senior journalist, N Krishnamohon and former Commissioner of Imphal Municipal Council, GA Rabi Sharma presented shawls to the 51st satyagrahee of the Nationwide movement, the statement continued.
It may be noted that the movement is being held as a part of the Mahatma Gandhi's 150th Birth Anniversary Observation which was kick-started since June 5 and will be continued till October 2 .
