Medicare to be spruced up: Phungzathang

Health Minister Phungzathang Tonsing on Saturday said that the health services in the hill districts will be spruced up.
He was speaking at Komlathabi in Chandel District on the occasion of the inauguration of the new building of Public Health Centre (PHC) there.
The Heath Minister said that now there are 60 PHCs in the state where people could avail round the clock health services and assured that apart from the PHC buildings the staff quarters and other facilities will be constructed.
The Komlathabi PHC having twenty three staff including two Allopathy doctors, two Ayush doctors, six ANM nurses, three staff nurses, two management staff, is also looking after eight primary health sub centres in the vicinity.

The health centre was upgraded to Primary Health Centre in the year 2011 and a sum of Rs two crore was earmarked for the construction of office building and staff quarters, said the minister in his inaugural speech.
He also said that a sum of Rs 1 crore was sanctioned and the new office building has come up.
However, the staff quarters and fencing are yet to be built, said the minister.
The office building construction was inspected by Health Director Okram Ibomcha few months back and completed under a targeted period of time.
The new office building has separate rooms for minor operation theatre, labour room, immunization, laboratory, integrated counseling and testing centre, ICTC, store, BPMU, medical officer (administrative) room, general ward with five beds, Ayush doctor and toilet facility.
Health director in his inaugural speech said that Manipur received more prize money than State budget two times as it secured first position in reducing the Infant mortality rate in the whole country.
He also said that if the state gears up for institutional delivery the State will be able to get the prize again.
He also said that the newly inaugurated PHC will serve a better health care in Komlathabi area and the people do not have to spend huge amount of money in travelling to Imphal and private hospitals.
The inaugural function was also participated by DK Korungthang MLA Tamenglong, Robert Kshetrimayum Deputy Commissioner, Chandel, Romy Ngaru Chief Medical Officer, Chandel.
