Imphal, December 21 2015:
Just as the age of superannuation of specialist doctors working under the State Health Services has been extended from 60 to 62 years, the State Government has been considering extension of the age of superannuation of non-specialist doctors, stated Health and Gamily Welfare Minister Phungzathang Tonsing.
Responding to a public interest motion raised by MLA Dr I Ibohalbi in the State Assembly today, Phungzathang stated that the State Cabinet decided to extend the age of superannuation of specialist doctors in view of the shortage of medical professionals working under the State Health Services.
Apart from considering a similar move for non-specialist doctors too, the Government has already collected reports from some States where the age of superannuation of doctors has been extended, Phungzathang stated.
Supplementing the Health Minister, Chief Minister O Ibobi clarified that there was no question of extending the age of superannuation of non-specialist doctors up to 65 years.
Raising the motion, Dr Ibohalbi asked as to why the age of superannuation of non-specialist doctors cannot be extended if the retirement age for specialist doctors can be extended.
Specialist doctors are not encompassed by roster duty system.
It is non-specialist doctors who have been working round the clock on roster system.
It is like someone toils and some others reap the fruit, Dr Ibohalbi remarked.
Stating that some people have been earning money by selling new application forms for food security cards in some areas of Imphal West district, MLA L Ibomcha raised another public interest motion seeking immediate attention of the CAF&PD Minister.
Replying to the motion, CAF&PD Minister M Okendro clarified that no new application forms for food security cards have been circulated.
The forms issued earlier would be used.
Against the target of 4.50 lakh people, 3.35 lakh people have applied for food security cards in Imphal West district.
Efforts are on to start implementing the Food Security Act from February next year, Okendro informed the House.
