MOL Act to be rectified : MEELAL

President of Meitei Erol Eyek Loinasillol Apunba Lup (MEELAL), Thokchom Babulchandra has said that Chief Minister N Biren Singh has assured to take up necessary steps to rectify the Manipur Official Language Act 1979 and to improve Manipuri language .
Speaking to media persons at MEELAL's office today, Thokchom Babulchandra said that representatives of the association met the Chief Minister on October 16 at his office to urge the State Government to rectify the Manipur Official Language Act 1979, specially to change the "written in Bengali Script' in the Act to "written in Meitei Mayek script" .
He claimed that Chief Minister N Biren assured to look into the matter at the earliest and to make necessary arrangements to bring Manipur language to the National and international stage .
The CM also assured to establish a repository to preserve and carefully store the historical scrolls and books of the State, he added .
Babulchandra also said that representatives of MEELAL urged the CM to enable students to take the National Eligibility Entrance Test (NEET) in Manipuri language .
On the other hand, the president urged all film makers to ensure that the titles of their films are also written in large and visible Meitei Mayek and to include Meitei Mayek in all other titles, as per the agreement reached between Film Forum Manipur and the association .
He also appealed all those concerned to exclude foreign language from songs, phrases, poems and news as much as possible .
Thokchom Babulchandra further lauded designer Robert Naorem for showcasing Meitei Mayek in one of his designs and conveyed belief that the designers and all those involved in the field will try to preserve and improve the rich culture of the State.
