Imphal, October 19 2014:
Tea production can become a thriving business in Ukhrul's Nilai village if a full-fledged factory is set up and adequate power supply is available at the area.
A private firm is not only cultivating Darjeeling tea on a land of around 15-hectare but also successfully producing quality tea from the village, located around 15 kms from Ukhrul district headquarters on old Imphal-Ukhrul road.

Manager of the firm, Nganingkhui Sangam said that quality tea production and its export to foreign countries are possible if Government provides necessary support.
He added that locally packaged tea of his small factory is supplied to the markets of Ukhrul and Imphal.
Although, there are demands from other States as well, the factory is unable to cater to these demands due to limited production, he added.
Nganingkhui said that many jobless youth can be be employed if a full-fledged factory is opened with necessary support from the Government.
Saying that power supply is their main hindrance, Nganingkhui said that the factory is being run by a generator power.
He added that locally packaged tea is sold at Rs 800 per kg.
