11th foundation day of JNIMS held : Docs-patients relationships stressed

Stressing on the importance of punctuality, Chief Minister N Biren Singh has said that many in the State are not serious when it comes to using time efficiently and effectively.
He made the statement during the 11 th foundation day of JNIMS which was organised at the institute's auditorium today.
Speaking at the event, the Chief Minister continued that if such habits are not controlled, society will never develop.
If one desires change in the society and if one wishes for the State to compete at the world stage, then change should begin with one self, he added.
On the other hand, Biren claimed that the State Government is pressuring the Prime Minister and the Union Health Minister to upgrade JNIMS to the level of AIMS and added that many States of the country now have around 2 such AIIMS level hospitals each.
The CM continued that all the doctors, nurses and staff of JNIMS are like family to him and appealed to all not to resort to any extreme measures whenever a demand is raised.
He also expressed desire for each and everyone to participate in such a grand event.
Biren further claimed that people's trust in JNIMS and the increase in the number of patients coming to JNIMS, are all the result of the people's trust in the Government.
He also credited the doctors and the nurses for the positive development.
The Chief Minister conveyed that Manipur doctors are among the best but added that the only caveat is lack of infrastructure, modern technology and machinery etc.
If all such infrastructure and advancement are made available, people will even refrain from going outside the State for treatment, he added.
The CM continued that there are some projects which are planned at a total cost of around Rs 20-30 crore and informed that the State Government is considering to urge Prime Minister Narendra Modi, who will arrive in the State on January 4 next year, to lay the foundation stones for the said projects.
Biren informed that he has also urged the Tata group to establish a cancer hospital branch in Manipur as well.
On the other hand, speaking at the event, Health Minister L Jayantakumar said that the profession of doctors and nurses, is a unique profession as there are no room for mistakes or excuses.
There can be no excuse if a person loses his or her life due to the negligence of a doctor, he said adding that doctors and nurses should remember that they are a part of the society and should also understand the sentiments of the patients.
Stressing on the importance of behaviour when it comes to being a doctor, the Minister claimed that there are two types of doctors, one who is loved by the patient's family or people and another who is despised and hated by the people.
A doctor should work with dedication and sincerity, Jayantakumar said adding that improving JNIMS needs the collective determination of the doctors, nurses and staff of JNIMS.
MLA Khurai AC, L Susindro Meitei, JNIMS Director Prof Th Bhimo Singh, Chairman Reception Sub-Committee, Prof N Tombi Singh and Organising Secretary Prof N Jitendra attended the event as the presidium members.
A magazine, Nongyin 2018, was also released as a part of the event and many meritorious students were felicitated as well.
