Planted IED safely detonated; Hand grenades lobbed in two places

Imphal, August 17 2011:
In early hours today an IED was found buried at a spot on National Highway 39 while a team of local police and Assam Rifles personnel later detonated the explosive safely.
In another incident in Imphal East, a Chinese hand grenade was lobbed at a resident of an intending candidate of the forthcoming state assembly election.
The IED was planted at Lilong Chajing area under Singjamei police station along Imphal-Moreh stretch of National Highway 39 .
After the IED was found at 7 am by an ROP team of 28th Assam Rifles, Singjamei police led by OC Sarat and Imphal West police led by Deputy SP S Ibomcha arrived at the spot and fervently tried to diffuse the explosive.
A team of explosive expert was called who successfully detonated under controlled environment at about 9:30 am.
The busy road along the stretch was held up on both ends for more than two hours resulting in traffic snarl.
In another incident today, at about 5 am at Yourabung Mayai Leikai under Lamlai police station in Imphal East district, unidentified person lobbed a Chinese hand grenade at the resident of Mangjam Poireihanba (40) who is projected to contest the forthcoming 10th state assembly election from Lamlai constituency.
The grenade however failed to explode which the police later recovered from the spot at about 9 am.
Nobody has yet claimed responsibility in both the incidents today.
