MPP banks on territorial integrity

In connection with the 10th Manipur Legislative Assembly elections, MPP has released its manifesto today and has pledged to protect Manipur's unity and territorial integrity.
The manifesto printed in three different languages/scripts -- English, Bengali and Meitei Mayek were released today by MPP president Dr Nimaichand Luwang.
The manifesto mentioned that MPP was established in 1968 with the objective of safeguarding the integrity of Manipur and protection of identity of each and every indigenous community of the State.
It alleged that Manipur witnessed extensive destruction during the SPF Government's 10 year long reign.
Crimes, violence and corruption rose to an unprecedented level.
It further alleged that the SPF regime was characterised by total failure in governance.
Pointing out that the integrity of Manipur was threatened repeatedly, it remarked that the latest threat came in the form of Supra State body.MPP forged an alliance with like-minded political parties with a view to form a new, different Government.
The manifesto also stated that MPP would make all efforts to resolve the issue of insurgency through political means.
It pledged that AFSPA would not be enforced and more districts would be created for administrative convenience.
Another prominent point of the manifesto is establishment of the Legislative Council where smaller communities can have their representation.
Formulation of suitable land law for welfare of hill districts, deployment of Highway Protection Force and setting up of State Security Advisory Board were some other points listed in the manifesto.
It also assured that Inner Line Permit System would be enforced in Manipur, effective environment policy would be framed and an effective law would be enacted to check corruption.
Maximum efforts would be put in to enhance horticulture produces and several agro-based industries would be set up for economic development of the State, it said.
It further pledged that Moreh would be made a special economic zone and extra ordinary policies would be formulated for improvement of education.
More sports infrastructure would be developed and greater incentives would be given to both players and officials.
It also mentioned that a separate Directorate would be set up for promotion of Meitei Mayek.
Necessary measures would be taken up to address the issue of HIV/AIDS, child protection law would be enacted and the youth policy would be implemented to the letter, the MPP pledged in its manifesto.
