Imphal, February 14 2012:
Saying that there was large scale proxy voting even against the name of dead persons in some polling stations of Wabagai AC, Trinamool Congress candidate U Deben has asserted that responsibilities should be fixed on the presiding officers concerned.
Speaking to media persons at his Babupara quarters this afternoon, Deben alleged that the INC candidate and his supporters indulged in extensive malpractices and proxy voting in 12 polling stations; no 36/1, 36/2, 36/3, 36/4, 36/5, 36/8, 36/9, 36/10, 36/13, 36/14 and 36/15.These malpractices were clearly visible when photographs of voters were compared with their EPIC photographs.
Asserting that the presiding officers were responsible for these malpractices, Deben urged the authority concerned to take up befitting action against the defaulting presiding officers.
He said that he would welcome if the ECI either decides to conduct re-poll in the 12 polling stations or invalidate and exclude the proxy votes from counting.
