Bodies condemn

Zeliangrong Union, Imphal Zone and Kabui Mothers Association have condemned disposing 80 litres of local liquor by Apunba Meira Paibee, Keirao Bitra after it was seized from a house of Irilbung Kabui Khun.
In a joint statement, the two bodies said that holy wine is used as one of the most important items in all the customary practices and rituals of Kabui/Haomei.
However, it is also a fact that some people are manufacturing it for commercial purpose, it added.
Every Kabui village has different dormitories and every outsider must take permission from Khunpu (village chief) if he/she has to enter a Kabui village, it said and added that as such, it is unbecoming on the part of Apunba Meira Paibees, Keirao Bitra to enter Irilbung Kabui Khun and seize 80 litres of local liquor by breaking open a locked house, the two bodies said.
Apunba Meira Paibee, Keirao Bitra had not only asked the village to pay a fine of Rs 10,000 but also put up a notice to prohibit entry of Meiteis to the village.
In this regard, the two bodies urged Apunba Meira Paibee, Keirao Bitra not to do anything which may disturb the brotherly relationship between the two communities.
