JAC expresses regret over assault of reporter

The Justice for Sanaton Athokpam has expressed regret over the unfortunate incident in which a reporter was assaulted by a protester at Khurai Thangjam Leikai on April 3 .
Saying that the matter was resolved amicably at a meeting convened in the presence of All Manipur Working Journalist Union (AMWJU) president, Bijoy Kakchingtabam, general secretary Naoba and the JAC members, it added that the meeting condemned the unpleasant incident and resolved to restrict the particular person from participation in the agitation.
The meeting also resolved not to interfere with the media on duty.
The Kakching District Journalist Association (KADJA) has strongly condemned the incident at Khurai on Saturday when a journalist of Impact TV, Elangbam Mushuk was beaten by a bandh supporter.
It is said that E Mushuk is also an executive member of KADJA.
A press release issued by KADJA general secretary, Jayanta Thokchom said that the matter should not be taken lightly as reporters enjoy immunity even during a war.
He then urged the State Government to book the person who attacked the journalist on duty.
The Thangmeiband United Club (TUC) has also condemned the incident and appealed to the people not to cause any sort of trouble to the reporters who are acting as eyes and ears of the public.
Addressing journalists at DM University Campus, today, TUC president Pratap Leishangthem said that the club will support the Justice for Sanaton Athokpam in their movements to deliver justice to the 5th semester medical student who was found hung to death at RIMS but urged all not to harass reporters on duty.
Pratap also expressed desire for the RIMS authority and Director to play a major role in unearthing the truth behind Sanaton's death on March 15 last.
