Assam Rifles personnel have killed three underground activists in two different insurgency related incidents in various parts of the State over the past twenty-four hours.
PIB Defence Wing in a statement said that troops of 34 Assam Rifles gunned down two militants today morning at Nangbrang following inputs of specific information.
Claiming that the slain cadres belonged to the PLA, the statement said that the troops laid an ambush and on being challenged the cadres opened fire.
The troops also retaliated and in the ensuing gun fight one of them was killed.
Later the villager recovered another body.
One 9 mm imported automatic pistol, four fired cases and two live rounds were recovred from the site of the encouter, said PIB.
The PRO of PIB said two cadres of an underground outfit were killed by personnel of 7 Assam Rifles during a shooting encounter which broke out at a place located in between Wangoo and Kumbi today at about 3 am.The two were on a motor cycle.
According to information received by the press security personnel recovered one 9 mm pistol from the possession of the slain cadres.
Four cycles have also been recovered during the course of the search operation conducted in the area.
In the other incident, personnel of 34 Assam Rifles gunned down a suspected cadre of PLA cadre at Nungbram under Yairipok PS at around 4.30 am today.
The slain cadre has been identified as Sagolsem Tombi (21) of Keirao Langdum but staying at Nongbram after marrying a local girl.
According to family members, Tombi was a former cadre of PLA and the AR personnel had killed him after picking him up from home.
Th family members have refused to take back the body and it is still lying at the mortuary of RIMS.
