Imphal, September 01:
The Tangkhul Katamnao Saklong, Ukhrul and the Zeliangrong Students Union, Tamenglong district, have petitioned the Governor, Ved Marwah to allow students from hill areas to be transferred from their respective institutions as per their choice.
The two student bodies submitted separate memoranda to the Governor in this respect on August 27 last.
According to reliable sources, the ZSU, in their memorandum, charged that many students have been victimized in the prevailing situation in Manipur hampering the academic atmosphere.
Stating that many students have been left stranded in Tamenglong, the union asked for intervention from the concerned authorities for extension of dateline for admission in the institutions in the interest of these victimized students.
The union also asked for special permission for transfer of students from one institution to another, i.e., flexible inter-college/inter-school transfers.
In the meantime, the Tangkhul Students Union, in their representation, maintained that as per their records, 5273 displaced students have left their respective educational institutions in the valley in the wake of the recent anti-cease fire agitation.
Urging that these students should be allowed admission in educational institutions in their respective districts and elsewhere, the union also urged that the displaced students may be exempted from paying their transfer fees.
