MLA inspects river cleaning works

Moirang AC MLA P Sharatchandra Singh has inspected the ongoing river bed cleaning works in the constituency today.
The MLA and his team inspected the 5 km section of Moirang river from Kwakta to Loktak, 3 km long Hannakhong Maril and 2 km long Wangthrok-Ngangkhalawai Maril.
Speaking to media persons, P Sharatchandra said the works in the river system was taken up to counter the frequent floods in the area.
Saying that areas where the cleaning works are being carried out faces four to five floods a year, the MLA said cleaning the river bed will help minimise and may control the flood.
On illegal occupation of river banks, the MLA appealed concerned people/individuals to empty the river bank and extend co-operation to the Government.
Notice have been already served to the illegal occupants, said the MLA.

On allegation of excavating land/soil from Chengei Lampak, the MLA said that he has his vision to improve the playground in par with international standard in the future.
"Since the Government has banned excavation of land/soil from the hills, there was no other choice left but to excavate the soil from the ground to be used in the river cleaning works," said the MLA.
Citing the importance of controlling the frequent flood in the area and the river cleaning works, he appealed concerned individuals and party to lend their support in the developmental works taken up in the constituency.
