Imphal, April 16 2018:
Works Minister Th Biswajitand Saitu AC MLA Ngamthang Haokip today inspected two dilapidated bailey bridges built over Imphal River within Kangpokpi district.
The bailey bridge built over Imphal River which links Kanglatongbi with Pukhao and Saikul was badly damaged by flood in 2015 .
It has not been repaired since then.
As the bridge was no longer fit for any kind of traffic, local villagers have been using a bamboo bridge to cross the river.
People have been facing immense difficulties as the bridge is heavily tilted at one end.
Speaking to mediapersons there, Biswajit lamented that the bridge which connected Motbung, Kanglatongbi and Saikul was not repaired after it was damaged by flood in 2015.The Minister announced that construction of a new bailey bridge would be started at its place by the first week of May provided there is no rainfall.
If there is continuous rainfall, the bridge would be listed in the work programme for execution after the end of rainy season, Biswajit said.
The Minister also instructed engineers concerned who accompanied him to re-construct the broken section of the suspension bridge built between Sapormeina and Saikul.
He further assured that repairing/development work of Imphal-Dimapur highway would be completed soon.
Meanwhile, MLA Ngamthang Haokip has conveyed gratitude to the Works Minister for his assurance to re-construct/repair the two broken bridges which had been abandoned for a long period.
