Rs 7 lakh compensation given to gang-rape victim's family

Imphal, August 02 2021:
The state government has paid compensation amount of Rs 7 lakh to the family of a gang-rape victim from Mayang Imphal assembly constituency, who was left for dead after being gang raped by four people in September last year.
Chief Minister N Biren handed over the compensation amount to the family members in the presence of Mayang Imphal MLA & deputy speaker K Robindro.
Mention may be made here that the victim was left in an unconscious state by the rapists but she gained consciousness in the early morning of September 2 after which she was rushed to RIMS hospital where she passed away.
Interacting with the media on the occasion, MLA Robindro prayed that such incidents do not happen again in future and said that a Memorial Day will be held every year as a reminder to the society to stand against such crimes.
As assured by chief minister N Biren, the four accused people were arrested soon after the incident and they are now in jail.
The payment of compensation amount got delayed due to some issues with the bank account number submitted by the family members as well as Covid-19 pandemic.
Apart from the compensation amount, the government will also provide a suitable job to the victim's younger brother after he completed his education.
The MLA also thanked local clubs of Ben-goon Loukol, JAC, MMWO and AMMUCOC for their cooperation in arresting the accused people, identified as Md Arish, Md Salim, Md Murmohamad and Md Fazi alias Mahammad.
