Imphal, June 02 2009:
The absence of doctors for three consecutive nights at the Yairipok Community Health Centre a CHC catering the medical need of people from four districts has caused inconveniences to the patients who came there.
At the same time, the members of the Development Organisation, Andro Kendra have threatened to picket the CHC if doctors were not sent immediately.
Cases of patients some in critical condition being forced out of compulsion to rush to Imphal since last night have been reported as there were no doctors to attend and administer them at the health centre.
Of the six doctors to be appointed at the CHC, three doctors had performed night duties on roster system till May 31.Since then, there has been no doctor on night duties citing lack of manpower infrastructure.
People from Senapati, Chandel, Thoubal and Imphal East have been heavily relying on the CHC.
The locals and people from the districts have felt the absence of doctors during the summer season due to lack of staff as unjustified excuse while also demanding the Health Directorate to send adequate staff at the earliest time possible.
The DOAK has also warned of picketing the CHC if their demand is not fulfilled without more ado.
It also cautioned that the State Health Department and the Health Directorate will be held responsible if any unwanted case arises due to it.
There have been several patients with various illnesses in the area who could not afford to arrange treatment at Imphal with the onset of summer.
