Imphal, July 29 2013:
Reacting to the State Cabinet's decision to takeover Sana Konung for development into a historical monument, Sana Konung Semgat Lup has expressed desire to have talks with the Government on official terms.
Meanwhile, the protest meet against the Palace takeover completed 37 days today.
Members of Heibongpokpi Nupi Samaj Association, Youth Social Club Convention Information Centre, Khurai and Sana Konung Semgat Lup took part in the protest.
Talking to media persons, President of Sana Konung Semgat Lup Ch Gopal Macha said that the State Government has not yet communicated to Sana Konung Semgat Lup even though the protest meet has completed 37 days.
The talks with the Government should be held only on the terms of Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) signed earlier, he noted.
The Lup has also submitted to the Governor and Chief Minister protesting acquisition of Sana Konung under Manipur Historical Monument Archaeological Sites and Remains Act.
However, there has been no response from them regarding the memorandum, Gopal lamented.
He further said that Article 2 of the Merger Agreement signed between Indian Government and Manipur allows the King to continue his customary rule in the State.
The State Government should not try to violate the customary rights of the King, the President averred.
Member of Heibongpokpi Nupi Samaj Association Inaotombi Leima demanded the State Government to withdraw its decision to acquire Sana Konung at the earliest.
