Imphal, January 23 2022:
Following the announcement of the first list of Congress candidates for the upcoming 12th Manipur Legislative Assembly election on Saturday, a crisis-like situation grips the party as its former MLA Elangbam Dwijamani tendered resignation from the primary membership of the party on Sunday and further announced the dissolution of Kakching District Congress Committee, Hiyanglam Block Congress Committee, Hiyanglam Youth Congress Committee and Mahila Congress Committee.
Members of the said Committees also resigned from the party.
Addressing a press meet at his residence in Hiyanglam Awang Leikai along with representatives of the said Committees on Sunday, Dwijamani said that announcement of the candidates' list on Saturday has clearly indicated the state Congress has become a plaything for Ibobi and his group.
"I left my job as a government teacher for Congress party at the age of 42 years and did not even take pension, while working hard as the MPCC vice president for over 12 years.
I stood by the party through thick and thin.
However, it seems all the sacrifices and hard work were for naught.
It is unfortunate to witness the conspiracy of ex-CM O Ibobi just to defeat me.
As such, I refuse to work in such disrespectful and hostile atmosphere," the ex-MLA said.
Informing that he along with leaders of the above committees decided to resign on Sunday and dissolve the party from Hiyanglam; Dwijamani stated that he will contest the upcoming polls as per the wishes of the people.
However, the decision on whether to contest the polls through a national party or as an independent candidate, will be taken after a detailed discussion with his workers and the people.
Dwijamani continued: "As per the constitution of INC, any member joining the party is to submit a form for the same to the DCC and BCC.
However, the ticket holder for Hiyanglam AC is not known by the DCC and BCC.
The leaders of the party will soon reap the fruits of its wrong decision of giving give the ticket to someone picked up from the road and not recognised by District Congress Committee (DCC) and Block Congress Committee (BCC), instead of giving it to a candidate who is sure to win" .
On the other hand, Thongju AC intending candidate Sanglakpam Preshyojit, who was planning to contest the polls as INC candidate, has submitted his resignation from the primary membership of the party on Sunday.
It is speculated that Preshyojit may join Rashtriya Lok Janshakti on Monday.
