MPP workers not safe: Sovakiran

Condemning the assassination of Vice-President of Manipur People's Party (MPP) Haobijam Manisana by two armed assailants who came in a Bolero in broad daylight at Ghari Makha Leikai along Tiddim Road at around 10 am today, MPP President N Sovakiran has sought clarification from the concerned regarding the motive behind Manisana's murder.
Addressing media persons at the office of MPP today afternoon, President Sovakiran said that his party workers are not safe in the State.
Prominent leaders of MPP namely Major Nilakamal, Deben of Lamsang Constituency, Binoy of Khundrakpam Constituency and Chingsubam Akaba were also assassinated in the past.
Vice-President Manisana was shot dead on his way to attend a meeting at the party's head-office.
He further said that Manisana was a sincere and dedicated leader of the MPP who valued party's ideology more than his life.
He had sacrificed his life for the party and the people.
The MPP President also decried the security lapses that led to the assassination of Manisana along the highly secured Tiddim Airport Road.
Spokesperson H Nabashyam told media persons that Manisana was called up today morning to attend the party's meeting on border fencing row.
Some unknown persons had threatened him at the office few months back.
Security personnel have been deployed at the party office upon request made to DGP following the incident, he added.
Senior MPP leader Dr L Chandramani, Vice-President N Ojit and other party workers also condemned the assassination of Vice-President Manisana.
