144 CrPC clamped in Tamenglong HQs

The District Magistrate Tamenglong on Wednesday promulgated 144 CrPC in the district headquarters due to a tense situation and sporadic clashes between supporters of candidates of the election to the Autonomous District Council (ADC).
The prohibitory orders imposed under 144 CrPc with effect from 5 pm of Wednesday within the radius of 500 metres around the office complex of Deputy Commissioner/ District Election Officer, Tamenglong, road leading to United Baptist Church crossing, IT road up to Medical road junction and 500 metres around Indoor Stadium at Lower Ground Tamenglong will remain in force until further orders, the district administration said.
Prohibitory orders prohibit assembly of 5 persons or more, carrying of lethal weapons, stones, sticks, firearms and other types of weapons or objects which may be used to inflict injury or cause destruction of properties.
The promulgation of the prohibitory orders came after supporters of Independent candidate Makiureiyang of 14 Chiuluan DCC demanded handing over of P Sana, SDO Tamenglong and his subordinate staff member Akham accusing of them of attempting to enter the temporary strong room where ballot boxes were kept at Indoor Stadium Tamenglong Tuesday night.
The supporters of the Independent candidate stormed the DC Office in the morning when police fired tear gas shells to disperse them.
They were later pushed out of the DC Office main gate by the police.
