Imphal, September 18 2014:
Taking strong exception to non-supply of water by Porompat Water Supply for the last one month, All Manipur Road Transport Drivers' & Motor Workers' Union has warned of halting supply of water from September 25 in case uninterrupted supply of water to water tankers is not resumed at the earliest.
Speaking to media persons on sidelines of a joint meeting of water tanker drivers at the complex of Porompat Water Supply, S Manglem, president of All Manipur Road Transport Drivers' & Motor Workers' Union said that water from Porompat Water Supply is provided to hospitals, hotels and public but after the water plant ceased supply of water, water tankers are compelled to buy water from private water suppliers at Khurai and Chingarel for public use.
He stated that fetching of water along Imphal-Saikul road is restricted by four clubs citing deplorable condition of the road leaving no other places for water tankers to fetch water.
Allaying apprehension that the water plant is not in a state to supply uninterrupted supply of water to water tankers looking at the condition of its water reservoirs, he cautioned that a situation may arises when water tankers have to surrender permit if the government does not address the matter and ensure adequate supply of water to water tankers numbering around 150 .
