Imphal, June 09 2014:
Agitated villagers of Keira Bitra in Imphal East district on Monday banned development of an Eco Park by UNACO after allegedly encroaching upon 20 ft area of Angourok Chingol, a grassland area.
The ban will remain until a mutual agreement is arrived at between the private firm and villagers, they said.
UNACO started the Eco Park development work last year in an open field measuring 4.81 acre inside Langthrei Loukol, also a grassland area located next to Angourok Loukol, T Joy, president, Nongpok Ningthou Panthoibi Development Committee, Keira Bitra told a press meet at the Press Club here.
He said UNACO's plan is indeed appreciative, but it cannot take the land of Angourok Chingol to develop the Eco Park without the consent of the villagers.
"We've banned the Eco Park development work with immediate effect until the issue is addressed," Joy announced.
