MU Inter College Youth Fest 2014 kicks off

A three-day 28th Manipur University Inter College Youth Festival 2014 under the theme 'Youth for Nation Building' being organized by Manipur University Cultural Committee kick-started today at the Centenary Hall, MU.
Prof HNK Sarma, Vice-Chancellor, MU and Prof RK Hemakumar Singh, Dean of Students Welfare, MU graced the inaugural function as chief guest and president respectively.
The festival started with taking out a march past by several student contingents from the Students' Home up to the Centenary Hall where Prof HNK Sarma hoisted the festival flag.
Speaking on the occasion, Prof HNK Sarma asserted that the Manipur University Students' Union (MUSU) which has been revived by holding a historic election after a gap of five years recently would work for betterment and welfare of the university students, while adding that youths shoulder a bigger responsibility towards developing the society.
Calling upon the youths to enhance their skills and take active participation in various curricular activities, the Vice-Chancellor exuded confidence that the ongoing festival would help in fostering skills of the youths.
The ongoing festival is also a perfect platform for students of different colleges who are participating in it to showcase their talents and skills.
Students who will be selected from the festival in different categories like cultural procession, literary and sports will be participating in the Inter University East Zone Cultural Festival, he maintained.
Prof RK Hemakumar said that the ongoing festival would provide an opportunity to the students to showcase their hidden talents in the form of different activities, while exhorting the students to take part in the festival knowing the core values of it.
Altogether 465 participants from 24 colleges are taking part in the Inter College Youth Festival.
