Tamenglong Electricity dept reduced to a joke

Tamenglong, September 09 2011: Negligence of the State government has reduced the Tamenglong Electricity Department to a joke stage as no officials are to be found in the power sub- station at the district HQs.

The Electricity Department Tamenglong is running only in name sake.

This was found out during a survey by JAC AMTUC & AMGEO Tamenglong branch along with a media team.

The matter is of seriously concern to government servants working in Tamenlong as the Treasury office Tamenglong has made production of 'no due certificates' mandatory for sanctioning the salary payment bills.

During the surprise visit, to the power sub-station only some staff like meter reader, Junior Commercial Clerk and few linemen were found in the office.

Apart from the absence of Head of the Department, the team found that the officials were charging ' 20 per no due certificate, bill payment was received without TR form 5 (Treasury Rules) .

The JAC AMTUC & AMGEO alleged the Electric Department that the government employees are forced to clear the electricity bills whereas the other consumers, those who are not government employees and those with unauthorized connection are not paying electricity bills.

On checking the files it was proved that the unemployment consumers have huge amount of electric bill dues.

It also alleged that the department has issued no due certificate even if there was power supply for only eleven days in a month.

The JAC said that electricity was supplied for only 101 days against 212 total days from February to August 2011 .

The team also learnt that the technical staff has not been maintaining any office record.

It is said that the Executive Engineer, Assistant Executive, SOs accountant, cashier, etc.

have never attended the office at Tamenglong.

To get one signature the poor local old man has to carry the file to Imphal.

The JAC AMTUC & AMGEO Tamenglong branch appeals all local MLAs, social leaders to investigate the matter and redress the public grievances.

In the month of February electricity was supplied for only 11 days, March has 12 days, April-15 days, May-19 days, June 16 days, July- 23 days and August has only 5 days.

Due to irregular of power supply many businessmen, students and general people were affected.
