Woman dies, patient party go on rampage

Tension ran high at Chamber of Commerce Hospital here today with enraged patient party going on a rampage destroying properties of the private hospital following the death of a woman patient due to alleged negligence by the attending doctor and other staff.
According to a late report, the doctor concern admitted negligence on his part in the death of the patient.
Forty-two years old Oinam Ningol Mutum Ongbi Bheigyabati w/o Mutum Angou of Samurou Bazar was reportedly taken inside the operation theatre for removal of stone from kidney.
But she was brought out dead after more than 20 hours with no sign of any operation ever conducted on her.
Bheigyabati was admitted to the hospital on September 7 at around 9 am.
At around 9 am of the following day, she was taken to the operation theatre.
But the report of the operation was not conveyed to the family members even by late evening.
When the family members approached the hospital authority in this regard, they were assured that the operation had been conducted successfully and the patient is resting.
Suspicious at the conduct of the staff in the hospital, the family members tried many times to see the condition of the patient.
But the staff and the hospital security prevented them.
However, at around 7 am today, the hospital authority conveyed that Bheigyabati breathed her last and the body was brought out of the operation theatre.
But there was no sign of any surgery on the body.
Infuriated at the conduct of the hospital authority, the family members and other patient party went on a rampage destroying doors and windows of the hospital building.
They also demanded action against the doctor and other staff concerned.
The situation was brought under control with the arrival of police.
Acting on a complaint lodged by the husband of the deceased patient, City police picked up three personnel of the hospital for questioning.
