'Transparency, accountability are must at time of planning'

There should be transparency and accountability at the time of planning for anything by the government so as to ensure adequate opportunities to all different sections of people, Paul Divakar, Convenor of Wada Na Todo Abhiyan has observed.
He was speaking as Chief Guest of the day-long State Level Convention on Society Participation in the 12th Five Year Plan jointly organised by Department of Economics, Manipur University and Human Rights Alert at Classic Hotel here today.
Divakar further observed that the government should consider take into consideration of underdeveloped areas while discussing proposal for Five Years Plan and also see that adequate opportunities are given to all the people.
It should also be remembered that giving economic justice to the people is an important part of planning, he pointed out.
Divakar further observed that it is equally important to minutely discuss issues regarding potable water, health, education, sustainability, disability, etc, along with civil societies at the time of formulating plan.
Prof Amar Yumnam of Economic Department, Manipur University, who was also present in the convention, stated that since we cannot escape from the impact of globalization it is important to take up programmes in tune with the current trend.
