Apunba Kanglei Sinnaibi Lup (AKSIL) has managed to save over Rs 51 lakh from being going out from the state in buying gifts for the coming Ningol Chakouba festival, according to AKSIL secretary N Pemcha.
Talking to reporters at GM Hall here on the concluding day of the 4th Kanglei Ningol Khudol Handloom Mela, which was opened on October 11, N Pemcha said the fair was a success as it has been - though in little amount - able to have a positive impact on the economy of the state.
It has also infused hope on some craftsperson of the state that they can earn income of their own.
The fair also sent out a message to the people of the state that local products are also usable, she said.
She said, the fair has earned around Rs 51 lakh.
The amount would have gone somewhere had it not there been the Kanglei Ningol Handloom mela.
AKSIL president Gomti Leima said the people must use local products as gifts on Ningol Chakouba festival.
She said the people should cultivate love of the land and local products which is also essential for economic sustainability.
The ten-day long Kanglei Ningol Khudol Mela came to an end today.
The fair was inaugurated on October 11.
