Imphal, May 26 2012:
There is no quality control in the construction work along Waisel Maril drainage system, which is being taken up under Jawaharlal Nehru National Urban Renewal Mission (JNNURM) through a non-state company allocated by Planning and Development Authority (PDA), alleged the Sagolband Development Committee.
Speaking to media persons today, Ratan Kh, Joint Secretary of the Committee asserted that there is no quality control in the construction work along Waisel Maril in Sagolband Takhel Leikai area.
Around 24 feet of the drain has been so poorly constructed with lesser amount of sand and cement that just a scratch over the wall by the hand leads to crumbling down of the entire structure.
He called upon the authority concerned for re-construction of the portion where quality has not been maintained so as to save the people of Sagolband area from frequent flooding during monsoon season.
Meanwhile, MLA of Sagolband A/C RK Imo has informed that the construction along Waisel Maril is being carried out by one Avantika company at an estimated cost of Rs 20 crores.
He has personally inspected the construction work and found it totally unacceptable.
As such he has instructed the concerned Director and Executive Engineer to re-construct it all over again.
