Uripok road shut down denouncing sheds construction

Imphal, February 23 2021:
Uripok road was shut down for 13 hours today denouncing the construction of 40 vending sheds on the footpath north of the Cheirap Court.
The shutdown began at 5 am.
All shops, including street vendors operating on either side of the Uripok road (upto Iroishemba) shut business during the protested hours.
Speaking to media persons, joint secretary of Uripok Apunba Lup (UAL), Lairikyengbam Bedika said that they are opposing the constructing as it inconvenience public movements.
The road was closed condemning the sheds construction on the busy footpath, the UAL president said and added that more agitations including Statewide bandh would be launched if the sheds are not removed.
Bedika further claimed the Imphal Municipal Corporation (IMC) issued the work order for the same on the condition that the sheds be constructed in non-public places.
