Fuel outlets to close today

In protest against the attack on oil and LPG tankers by bandh supporters near Keithelmanbi along NH-2 road on January 21 and demanding adequate compensation for the damaged tankers and injured drivers, fuel outlets in the state will be closed on Monday.
Several tankers were damaged while some drivers got injured in the attack carried out by bandh supporters in the wee hours of January 21 and the attack indeed was due to lapses on the part of security personnel escorting the tankers, said Manipur Petroleum Retail Outlet Dealers' Association in a statement.
A joint meeting of HPCL, BPCL, IOCL and Nayara Energy Limited held on Sunday strongly condemned the attack and decided to close fuel pumps across the state on Monday.
As per decision arrived during the joint meeting, adequate compensation should be given for the damaged tankers and injured driver and Manipur government must initiate departmental enquiry to ascertain if there were security lapses in the attack and those responsible officials should be punished.
Apart from appealing for immediate implementation of norms of national highway along NH-2 road, the meet also decided to launch intense forms of agitation if the government fails to provide adequate compensation for damaged tankers and injured drivers by January 31 .
According to the statement, the joint meet resolved that government must take steps to prevent such incidents in future and adequate measures should be taken up for the safety of petroleum tankers and drivers.
