Imphal, November 22 2013 :
United Naga Council (UNC) has acknowledged the cooperation and solidarity of the general public towards the successful observation of 48 hours ban on vehicular traffic on National Highways 2, 37 and 150 in Naga areas with effect from midnight of 19th November, 2013 .
In a statement issued by its Publicity Wing, the Naga body asserted that through the observation of this stricture yet another clear message has been placed on record - that the Government of India(GoI) and the Government of Manipur(GoM) continue to hold in disrespect the democratic process of tripartite talk on the demand for an alternative arrangement for the Nagas in Manipur outside the GoM pending settlement of the Indo-Naga issue.
The absence of intervention from the GoI, the initiator of the dialogue process, continues to invite agitations and erode the faith and confidence in India's democracy and its system which does not honour the merit of our case put forward democratically and without violence, the Naga body said, while congratulating the Tribe Hohos, the frontal and regional organisations, the general public for overseeing the observation of the ban and exercising outmost restraint to make it peaceful and violence free.
"We solicit their continued support and ownership of the movement in the days ahead as we take forward the movement to secure our aspiration for political empowerment is achieved", the statement added.
