Thoubal, June 08 2021:
A Joint Action Committee (JAC) has been formed in connection with the death of a lactating mother, who died few hours after COVID-19 vaccination on Monday.
The deceased woman has been identified as Naorem Ningol Laishram Ongbi Kiranbala Devi (37) of Khangabok Part 1 Khullakpam Leikai, Thoubal district and she left behind a seven months old infant.
Alleging that Kiranbala died after COVID-19 vaccination, a JAC has been formed and demanded a proper investigation into her death and warned of launching intense agitation if government fails to fulfil demands of the JAC.
The JAC also said that Kiranbala's body would not be claimed until conduct of post-mortem.
According to Kiranbala's husband L Sharat, his wife was vaccinated with Covishield vaccine at about 1.30pm on Monday at Sangaiyumpham Primary Health Sub Centre.
After keeping her at the observation room for around half an hour, Kiranbala returned home.
However, around 5.30pm the same day, Kiranbala complained of headache and uneasiness and was rushed to Thoubal district hospital immediately but died at the hospital, Sharat said and strongly alleged that his wife died due to the vaccination.
He also demanded proper investigation into his wife's death and punishment of the guilty, if any.
Meanwhile, a public meeting was held at Khangabok Khullakpam Leikai and formed 'JAC against the death of Naorem Ningol Laishram Ongbi Kiranbala Devi (Covid Vaccination)' and adopted several resolutions.
JAC convener L Shanta told media persons that Kiranbala had no disease before vaccination and her demise after few hours of COVID-19 vaccination has shocked her neighbours and locals as she was an ideal teacher of Base Academy, Khangabok and widely known in the locality.
He also said that Kiranbala got vaccinated after registering through online and locals strongly believed that she died due to vaccination.
Demanding proper investigation into Kiranbala's death within June 10 and punishment of all the guilty people as per law of the land, L Shanta warned of launching intense agitation in coordination with CSOs if government fails to take prompt action.
Meanwhile, the JAC submitted a memorandum in connection with Kiranbala's death to the chief minister and copies of the same to the Thoubal DC, SP and CMO.
The memorandum mentioned that post mortem of Kiranbala's body must be performed in the presence of an executive magistrate and the entire process video recorded apart from demanding judicial inquiry into Kiranbala's death.
