Nathan village wants government to construct community hall for women

While pushing forward the role of women in the development process of any society, President of Anal Women Sinorol Rutah Anal has expressed her desire for the state government to construct a community hall specially for the womenfolk at Nathan village under Chandel district so that they can gather and discuss developmental issues of the society.
Speaking to Hueiyen Lanpao, Rutah Anal informed that Anal Women Sinorol was established in 2007 with the aim to bring about development among the women of Anal community.
However, constraint in fund has been one of the main drawbacks in its quest for development for Anal women.
All its fund are contributed from among the members.
Rutah Anal conveyed that at present, members of the Association are engaged in producing Anal Jewelleries and traditional dresses to bring economic development.
They sell these dresses and jewelleries going here and there or at function venues.
Besides, they also keeping night vigil to safeguard of the village from crimes and using intoxicants.
Last year, they handed over a man who raped a Lamkang woman and the rapist is now in jail.
They have also been taking up the issues of human trafficking and creating awareness among the people in this regard, she said while expressing disappointment over the customary tradition of excluding women from decision making process.
In order to promote work culture among the women of Anal community, the Association has been encouraging all women right from teenage stage to weave clothes at homes and they get around Rs 1500 for each woven cloth.
There are strict rules among Anal community which makes it mandatory for Anal people to wear only traditional dresses woven in traditional way.
No clothes woven in modern looms are allowed to wear on such occasions, she said.
Taking into due consideration of the problems being faced in organizing awareness programmes due to lack of proper place, the State government should construct community hall especially for women at Nathan village, Rutah urged.
She also expressed desire for a shop or market place to sell the clothes and jewellery items made by the Anal women to uplift their economy.
