Pact signed, AR to pay Rs 10 lakh 'fine'

A joint meeting held in the aftermath of the killing of Mangboilal Lhouvum has agreed to launch investigation and payment of Rs 10 lakh by the Assam Rifles as compensation to the victim's family.
Amid high tension subsequent to Mangboilal's killing, the meeting attended by CSOs, Assam Rifles and officials of the state government signed a deed of agreement on Saturday at Gelnal village (Banglabung) .
Signatories of agreement included 22 sector AR commander Brigadier PS Arora, Kuki Inpi Kangpokpi general secretary Thangminlen Kipgen, ADGP Manipur Police, KSO-SH general secretary Thangtinlen Haokip, TAKCA and SDO T Waichong.
The agreement resolved to probe into the incident that took place on Friday night at Chalwa involving commander of 44 AR E Company, by the police immediately.
The present Company of 44 AR Banglabung outpost will be removed or replaced by the same company in Kangpokpi district headquarters at the earliest after approval from Army HQ New Delhi.
Moreover, a fully functional armed Police Station with 40-strong personnel will be set up at the earliest.
The pact further resolved that Assam Rifles will pay compensation of Rs 10,00,000 to the victim's family on humanitarian ground with Rs 1 lakh to be paid on Saturday itself.
