Imphal, January 23 2010:
Full dress rehearsal of the march-pas as part of the Republic Day celebration in Imphal was held today.
March-pas contingents of Central paramilitary forces, state forces, students and voluntary organisations took part in the rehearsal.
Heavy traffic jams were witnessed in almost all the roads leading to Imphal city this morning during the rehearsal.
Traffic jams and congestions were witnessed at the diversions routes at Singjamei, Supermarket, Dinku road at Khuman Lampak, Tidim road, Thangmeiband road leading to Khoyathong etc.

The march-pas rehearsal kicked off from the parade ground of the 1st Manipur Rifles complex then went route along the NH-39 towards Kangla fort, entered the fort on the southern gate and passed through the northern gate then proceeded on the highway again from North AOC to Khoyathong, then took the stretch of the highway from there till Raj Bhavan traffic island and reached the originating place at MR ground.
Churachandpur district administration has also completed preparation for the celebration of the day at the district headquarters.
In the district, the celebration function will be held at 1.30 pm with DC as chief guest.
Cultural dances and shows and exhibition football match will mark the celebration, district administration has made all the necessary arrangements for the same, a DIPR release said.
Meanwhile, a statement of the Director of Social Welfare Department, MSK Sharma, said that his department is organising a function tomorrow at 10.30 am to present gifts to nine selected trust, voluntary organisation and non-governmental organisations.
Gift packs will be distributed to the students of Blind School and Deaf and Blind School at Takyelpat, inmates of Central Jail, Shajiwa, Children Home at Deulahland, Leprosy Hospital cum Children Home at Lei Ingkhol, Children home at Tera Keithel and patients at JN Hospital, the statement added.
