THE PRICES of the newspapers with multi-colour print having eight pages will be increased from January 1 next year, said a statement of the newly formed Newspaper Publishers' Forum, Manipur today.
With the decision to hike the price, newspapers will be distributed to the hawkers at the whole rate of Rs 2 by giving Rs 1 commission to the distributors, i.e.the hawkers.
The hiked rate is only for the multi-colour newspapers with eight pages.
The matter of hiking the prices of the newspapers was taken after series of discussions among the publishers of the newspapers published in multi-colours with eight pages for many times, said the statement appealing the people to bear with the problems to be caused by the price hike.
The statement also while giving reasons behind the decision to increase the price said that, it was due to the hiking of the prices of transportations charges in procuring the raw materials required for the printing newspapers and also the raw materials.
Manipur being in the far north east corner of the country, more problems is facing in procuring the materials.
The prices of the national papers have already increased due to the said reasons, it said.
The decision to hike the price was taken in a meeting of the publishers held on November 7 last at Hotel Imphal which resolved to make announcement on December 15, it added.
